Eve of Destruction is the free Vietnam Mod for Battlefield 1942. With many original maps, including night maps and jungle maps. With all these great details and features, this is a very good mod that rivals the official expansion packs for Battlefield 1942 and Desert Combat. Great mod if you cant afford Battlefield Vietnam yet or dont want to deal with the lag in Battlefield Vietnam.

With friendly fire on and a jungle map, this can get to be a very intense game. You can easily get surrounded by the enemy. One minute you could be racking up the points sniping from a bush on top of a hill, the next you could be snuck up upon by an enemy and wasted. This fear makes many people jumpy and there tends to be a lot of teamkilling, making the game very intense with the constant fear of the enemy sneaking up on you and also having to be careful of your fire. The downside of this is that some idiots think it's funny to team kill and others get a very poor attitude over an accident.

The attention to detail in this mod is also astounding. With music from the time of the war playing in the American bases, this is very cool. The helicopters can drop lifeboats into the water. The planes napalm that will burn for a while. Punji sticks often take the place of barbed wire. There are amphibious vehicles on both sides. Only certain soldiers get parachutes and on some maps and servers they can be turned completely off. You can shoot soldiers out of cars and trucks as well as out of helicopters. I once sniped a gunner out of a moving Huey and the possibility is there to snipe a pilot or copilot.

There are many maps made just for this mod, a very nice touch.

I would highly recommend trying this mod out if you have Battlefield 1942. If you want it but don't have Battlefield 1942, you can buy Battlefield new as low as $23 and change. (I saw this price at a local Wal-Mart) The common price is $30 as I write this article
