Canon A510 Review

Features and Software

Other features: this camera has a load of other features, from startup sounds to scene assist, it's got lots of cool stuff.

You have 13 different modes on the dial control of this camera:
--Portrait: allows subject to be in focus and the background to be blurred
--Landscape: what else? It's used for shooting landscapes
--Night scene: This is used to capture subjects against a nighttime backdrop, flash directed at the subject and the shutter speed is slow
--Fast Shutter: Used to take photos of fast moving subjects
--Slow Shutter: Used to take photos and make them appear blurred
--SCN: 8 Different modes to describe the scene you're shooting:
--Stitch assist: Make Panoramic Pictures and even 360* Shots
......Check it out, this is taken with an earlier model and resized, but that shows what it does at least
--Movie: Audio and Video are recorded, see Page 3 of this review

--Auto: Camera does pretty much everything for you, you choose, flash off or auto
--P: Program settings, choose a few options, not all
--TV: Allows you to set shutter speed, adjusts aperture automatically
--AV: Allows you to set aperture, adjusts shutter speed accordingly
--M: Manual, you set aperture and shutter speed.

The camera has a built in speaker so you can hear sound, just thought you might wanna know that, it's a nice thing to have I say.

In playback mode, you can select a picture, then hit the menu button, then select "Voice Memo" and record a sound clip description of the picture...you could use this to say, take a picture of someone, then give their name, great for memorizing names...not that I need to do that or anything...

There is a small video editing feature built into the camera, you can cut time off the beginning of a video as well as the end, you then have the option to save it as a seperate file or overwrite the original video file.

You may choose between NTSC and PAL video modes, so you can use it all over the world...umm...yeah...

There is an autorotate feature, but I have found that it sucks, it rotates pictures that dont need rotated...oh well...a small defect, maybe it can be fixed with a firmware upgrade.

This is a cool feature pictured below, it's common with most digital cameras, it displays some info about your picture in windows, just right click the picture, click properties, and view advanced, pretty cool huh? Just make sure you set the date on the camera correctly, the camera will automatically bring up the set date and time window when you first boot it up.
